When filmmaker and sound designer Florian Doidy from Musashi Productions in France sent over a video of his home cinema, we had to share it. This isn’t your average movie night setup, it’s a full 7.1 surround system powered entirely by Minirigs.

Florian, whose work spans film, sound design, and immersive projection, has turned his living room into a DIY audio lab. Each Minirig is carefully positioned in custom wooden mounts, with the subs handling the low end punch you’d expect from a proper cinema mix.

 

Florian’s Setup

  • 7 × Minirig 4 speakers

  • 2 × MiniSub 3 subwoofers

  • Creative Labs Soundblaster X4 (7.1) sound card

  • Windows 11 laptop running MPC-HC (media player with 5.1 to 7.1 channel redirection)

  • 3.5mm jack cabling throughout

The Soundblaster X4 software lets Florian fine tune the spatial offset of each speaker down to the millisecond, keeping every sound perfectly aligned in the room.

Audio routing:

  • L/R → Minirig Left → Minirig Right

  • Side L/R → Minirig Side Left → Minirig Side Right

  • Surround L/R → Minirig Surround Left → Minirig Surround Right

  • Centre/LFE → Minirig Centre → Sub 1 → Sub
