Wolf's Child - Wildworks

Wildworks are a Cornish site-specific theatre company who work all over the world creating promenade performance and theatrical installations. Earlier this year they worked on a performance called Wolf's Child. Wolf's Child is a promenade piece of theatre in which the audience travel with the performers. This was performed in May at a National Trust property, Fellbrigg Hall in North Norfolk. The show started at 7.45 - just before sunset and the audience followed the action around the ancient deer park at the back of the National Trust Property. 

Helen Atkinson a Freelance Sound Designer & Engineer who worked on the project said  "We had to radio mic the performers so they were amplified but the kit had to be portable, battery operated and easy to carry.  The director's one request was that the sound felt like it was coming from the actors and not from a big static PA. We ended up realising the project using mostly Minirigs, Wildworks now have 16 mini rigs and a couple of subs....The Minirig vocal rig was brilliant because it didn't truly amplify the vocal in the way a large PA would have but gave it a lift to the voice meaning that performers could be more easily heard without having to shout across the space. This allowed them to be more dynamic with their performances. There was a sequence in the show where the characters get lost in the woods and they would be calling to each other across the forest, trying to hunt out the other in the dark. This was very atmospheric and would not have been possible without the Minirig vocal rig."
